The Choir Version

“This is earnest choral writing with paradoxical lyrics.”

This arrangement leans into the paradox of the poem as if it’s a sacred masculine manifesto… while clearly undermining it:

• exaggerated solemnity
• ritualistic choir gravity treating absurd possessiveness as sacred doctrine
• absurd contradiction delivered with complete sincerity, making it funny
• lines that become increasingly ridiculous the more seriously they are sung
• repetition and swelling harmonies heighten the irony.
• slow, almost ceremonial pacing that commits to seriousness.
• low-end foundation anchor the harmonies - selling the mock-ritual feel -
• with harmonic swells that are doing some of the theatrical lifting, making it more unsettling — which is kind of delicious given the lyrics.

Interaction Between Music & Lyrics

I chose this musical arrangement deliberately to juxtaposition the lyrics with medieval, almost gregorian chant, mixed choir to create a “solemn choral satire”.

The somber lyrics of the choir leader are increasingly mocked by the choir (who annotates its own performance "Full choir - lush harmonies") or comments on the claim of the leading voice not being controlling, but "supportive" .

The Flamboyant-NRG Version

Flamboyant-NRG is not really an established genre, to be honest I made it up, mixing Glam Rock, Flamboyant Pop, High-NRG to give the energetic, playful, celebratory, glam inspired tunes their own music genre.

Playful and extravagant: the lyrics are not earnest or restrained — they celebrate flamboyance with a wink. Images and phrases are deliberately over the top, like they’re dressed in sequins and shoulder pads.

Any notion of gender identity and role expectation are joyfully turned on their head in these glamorous and slightly ironic versions of tongue in cheek affirmation of freedom, rebellion, and sparkling glam (especially in Version 1).

Submission to this specific kind of love is both liberating and exhilarating. Ultimately, the song portrays love as a dazzling, eternal performance where the boundaries between individual identity and shared devotion become blurred.It’s fun, glamorous and self aware at the same time.

Interaction Between Music & Lyrics

I chose this style because it transforms contradiction into something expressive and almost celebratory. Instead of softening or confronting the paradox, the music amplifies it through performance, making it feel intentional and even playful. The fluidity of gender and identity allows the voice to move beyond fixed roles, making the song feel open and expansive. It shifts the meaning away from ownership or control, and towards a more dynamic, self-aware exploration of desire. What might feel conflicted in other versions becomes here something vibrant, theatrical, and unapologetically alive.
